We are delighted to be able to officially announce that the loaf is taking part in the forthcoming ITV show 'Britain's Best Bakery' which will be showing on weekdays from this coming Monday at 4pm. Our first round episode is on Wednesday 5 December at 4pm.
Well I can't put it off any longer...I am going to have to talk to you about Christmas! This weekend sees the first of our season of Christmas Markets with the Fabulous Places Christmas Market at the Roundhouse in Derby on both Saturday and Sunday. We are busy baking authentic German Stollen, spicy lebkuchen, ginger breads, Christmas cakes and, of course, the first of our mince pies. We made the mincemeat some weeks ago during the apple harvest and it has been maturing steadily, helped by the odd slug of brandy!
The weekend will also see the return of the ever popular Cranberry, oat and apple sourdough as well as Apricot and walnut sourdough and, new for this year, Christmas focaccia! Come and try these and many more delicious treats by visiting us in Derby where you will also need a few big bags with you to carry home all the tempting presents from our fellow stall holders.
We weren't content with just one two-day market this weekend...no, we will also be at our regular Matlock Farmers' Market on Saturday. If that weren't enough, we are also helping our friends at Hartingtons to launch their brand new food fair at Duffield on Sunday! Though not specifically a Christmas food fair, I am sure some of the goodies will make their way to Duffield too so come along and support this great new event if you can. Read more on the Hartingtons website.
This Sunday also has me delivering one of my bread baking courses - 100% Sour. I put up dates for courses in 2013 a couple of weeks ago and already some are selling out. However, I have found a couple more dates in the early Spring so if you are looking for a Christmas present idea that has the benefit of equiping your loved one with the ability to feed you baked goods for ever more, then look no further! All details are on the website.
Reading this back makes this weekend seem a little busy! What a good job we have such a great team of staff to help: Mark, Catherine, Keith, Stacey and Jane in the bakery, Phil, Ashley and Matt in the kitchen, Adrian, Helen, Andy, Dan and Jackie in Crich shop, Katherine, Emma and Danielle in Matlock and, of course, Market Mary! Also this weekend, my lovely parents are coming down from Cumbria to help out. A good opportunity for me to thank the whole team as we head into a very busy Christmas season.
Best wishes for this late Autumn and in to Advent and we look forward to seeing you soon.
