My goodness, the office door is open, it is a lovely spring day...where is my bike!!! Just a very quick update dear friends of the loaf to let you know about a couple of exciting markets we have coming up and one or two other things...
Out and about with our bread this Spring...
This Sunday we are delighted to be attending the now well established Fabulous Places Derbyshire Spring Market at the Derby Roundhouse. Opening at 10am and with a lovely Spring day forecast, it is bound to be very busy. There will be around one hundred hand-picked stalls of food and craft goods from the region so bring a capacious bag and sensible shoes! I recommend coming by train and walking across the footbridge away from the city centre to the Roundhouse entrance.
Then on Saturday 14 March, as well as attending our usual Farmer's Market in Belper, we will be at the Derby Grammar School from 10am until 4pm at their now well-established annual food fair. There will be lots of lovely local producers there so do come along.
Regularly we are at the following markets, so look out for the van!
We are always on the look out for other markets and events to bring our bread to so do let us know if you know of any that may be suitable.
Don't miss out on the two new bread courses for 2015...
Interested to know what this is used for? Then I think you need to sign up for my new 'Breads of the North' course! There are a couple of places left on the April date and then further dates later in the year...it promises to be a fascinating tour of all things yeasty across northern Europe!
Then there is the already tried and tested German Baking course 'Brot', again running a couple more times this year. At the first one in January, we baked so much bread that I seriously considered opening a shop!
"You've done it again - another wonderfully enjoyable and informative course. Hard work, but well worth the investment in time and effort. The day is well prepared, clearly explained and demonstrated. Delicious lunch too - compliments to the chef and the rest of the team who looked after us all so well. I was amazed by the sheer volume of goodies we all produced during the day and the results speak for themselves! Yummy :)" Tim
"The day was brilliant, intensive but I learned so much. The bread produced is excellent and very much appreciated by my family who all shared in the produce. I will certainly incorporate some of the recipes into my regular baking.
The Sauerlander Schwarzbrot is delicious and I think will go particularly well with a good Stilton. The Mohnsnitzel is unlike anything I have had before but I will in the future try making it.
This is probably not the course for beginners in breadmaking and it was good to revise some of the techniques previously learned.
Thank-you for a smashing day." Brenda
Our wonderfully evolving team of staff!
Those of you who are regulars at our Crich Café will have noticed a degree of change in our shop and kitchen personnel over the past six months. We would like to thank you for your patience during this time as we train up new people but we would also like to thank our staff, both long-standing and brand new, for their hard work learning their new roles and covering to fill any gaps we have had from time to time. We are delighted to have a nearly full complement in place once more and look forward to some stability for the foreseeable future.
I think that is enough for now...time to get those pedals turning and finally burn off the winter comfort layer!
