Christmas is coming !

by Andy Wallis

The festive season is well and truly upon us, and we can't wait to tell you what we have in store for you this Christmas.

We always like to make sure that we are baking the best goods for you all year round, but at this time of the year we really like to push the boat out!

Mazipan Stollen
Mazipan Stollen

Made small and medium for customer sale and we use the large ones in the café to slice and toast (oh how the marzipan caramelises in the toaster!)

Cranberry, oat and cranberry sourdough
Cranberry, oat and cranberry sourdough

Made with fresh cranberries it is a tart, savory bread that literally 'bleeds' with the juice of the cranberries

Mince pies
Mince pies

Made from a family recipe, our Mince Pies are now available daily. We made our own mincemeat a couple of months ago using English Bramley apples and not-so-English brandy and pride ourselves in our all-butter pastry.

Christmas puddings
Christmas puddings

Also made using Andrew's family recipe, Christmas puddings are available for order. The puds are deliciously dark and gently spiced with fresh apple and carrot in the recipe, giving them a moistness that adds to their flavour, the perfect way to round of a Christmas meal and save yourself a job whilst you’re at it. They are available in two sizes; small (1-2 people), medium (3-4 people) - the large ones we made have already all gone so get in quick if you want one of the small or medium sizes!

Baked goods
And lots lots more

As well as everything else, we are also baking Christmas cake slabs, Biscotti, Florentines, Gingerbread Men, shortbreads and traditional German Pfeffernusse and Lebkuchen!

Turkey cob
Turkey cobs!

Available Tuesday - Sunday, we have our festive winter warmer cob. Made with turkey from Crich Butchers which we season and roast in the bread ovens, home made stuffing and cranberry sauce - the perfect lunch this December.

Bread baking courses

We have also added some dates for the new year for our popular bread baking courses, it is likely that these will be the last courses that Andrew runs so if you've always thought about doing one then now is your chance.
We will be running two courses early in the new year:

All about the dough - 20 January 2019 (Perfect for first time bakers!)

French Baking - 27 January 2019 ( Experience the delight of making croissants from scratch, teasing perfect slashes out of your baguettes and tasting your own buttery brioche!)

Contact Roger on to enquire about booking a space for yourself or as a present to someone this Christmas.

Pizza night at the loaf

Pizza night

As you may know, we had our final pizza night of 2018 on Wednesday 12 December. However fear not, as we will be returning in the new year on January 23. Our special pizza that week will be a favourite (of staff as well as customers), the meat feast! Phone the shop on 01773 857074 to book your table for the new year.

Attention all Vork pie lovers !
